The former has responsibility, whereas the latter has sanctity. As someone who would spread the gospel and so "build" churches (groups of Christians) wherever he went, the apostle begins by speaking of the grace (favor) that God gave him. But he had a spiritual duty to construct prudently. This meant that he had an obligation to exercise caution when instructing and to assess the character of everyone he interacted with. He must start by constructing on the firm foundation of Christ. Second, he needs to understand that prospective converts are not all the same. Each of the two main groups is put to the test by fire (rigorous obstacles). The gold, silver, and valuable stones can and will withstand the test since they are pure and will not be burned by the fire, but the wood, hay, and stubble cannot. Therefore, the astute builder will need to distinguish between the two classes and manage his time effectively. On the day of judgment, he will be richly rewarded with divine fulfillment if his converts stay faithful. Even though his own testing technique saves him personally, he will still be dissatisfied by the outcome if it doesn't.[/size]

While it is satisfying to witness others' growth and faithfulness, it is also satisfying to know that we have done and will continue to do our best to share the gospel![/size]
